The Academy of Art University

The Academy of Art University is a proprietary private educational institution. The owner is Stephens Institute. It was founded in 1929, by Richard S. Stephens in San Francisco, California. The number of buildings, which The Academy of Art University occupies, reaches 30 ones. Formerly it was called Academy of Art College.
The enrolment is nearly 12,000 annually, and because of this fact, the Academy of Art University is considered to be the largest school of arts and design in the United Sates of America.
Firstly, in 1929, the Academy of Art University was established as the Academy of Art Advertising in San Francisco. Richard S. Stephens with the help of his wife, started to extend the curriculum, and the following specialization as fashion illustration was added, and as a result, in 1936 a Fine Art Department was established.
Son of Richard S. Stephens and Clara Stephens, Richard A. Stephens followed the parents’ steps and started to make the expansion within the Academy of Art University. His first innovation was Foundations Department.
The Academy of Art College was incorporated in 1966. This year was also famous for the establishing the following degrees – Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and Master of Fine Art’s Degree.
In May2007, the Academy of Art University received its accreditation.
